With HQhair turning the big 1-7 this year, we're pulling out all the stops to take it back to when we were 17 years old. From 90's trends we can't get enough of, to prom makeup inspo we wished we had when we were 17, the whole HQhair team is reminiscing on their younger years. We got talking about things we wished we had known when we were 17, and the advice we wish we could go back and give ourselves.
- Don’t go for the brightest pink blusher.
- Lay off the eye-liner a bit.
- Stop over-thinking things.
- Put serum on your god damn hair.
- Take pictures of everything. Your loved ones, places you've visited, a meal that you loved, a selfie when you looked sassy as hell.
- Stop trying to emulate others and following trends. You’ll find your own style eventually, and it’s far more interesting being different than blending in. Trust yourself to be a trend setter.
- Leave your eyebrows alone.
- Don’t get a credit card (or 3) – your future self will thank you.
- Keep skincare simple. Don't overpower your skin with too many products.
- Start a savings account, and don't waste your money. It's fine to treat yourself, but having savings will feel so good when you're older!
- If you get a fringe cut by someone other than your mum’s hairdresser, it might actually suit you. Your forehead is not your friend!
- Being an adult isn't as exciting as you think it will be – enjoy still being able to be irresponsible.
- Your friends are more important than you think. The good ones will be there forever, so make sure you do the same for them.
- It doesn't matter if you don't know exactly what you want to do with your life right now. Chances are, even if you do know at the age of 17, it will probably change!
- Take your make-up off every night. No matter how tired you are. Take. It. Off.
- Don’t worry about boys – they will come and go but you will find the right one when the time is right – cliché but very true!
- Go and get your foundation matched. You can never guess your shade, let the experts help you!
- Don't give up a hobby because it's not 'cool'.
- Mum's actually do know best most of the time. Ask for her advice and actually listen
What advice would you give your 17 year old self?
