In case you haven't heard, HQhair turns Sassy 17 this year so we're throwin' it back 17 years to 1999 and reminiscing about the trends we rocked back in the day, or wanted to rock but could never quite pull off. From body glitter and braids to blue eyeshadow and brown lips, here are some of the 90's trends we still can't get enough of!

The Half Up-Do

Back in the 90's we saw the half up-do everywhere. A half high pony presented proudly towards the top of the head. Now, the likes of Ariana Grande rocks this look on the daily. We're recreating it by smoothing the hair using the Original & Mineral Frizzy Logic Shine Serum, then parting the hair and bringing the top section up into a high pony with the ghd Tail Comb.

Braids

Braids are one of the hottest hair trends right now, and they were huge in the 90's too! From chunky full braids to cute accent braids, we've seen them all - just take a look what KMS California did at the Bora Aksu LFW show this season! We like to add texture to our tresses with the Label.M Texturising Volume Spray, and define braids with Redken's Braid Aid for long lasting style.

Blue Eye Makeup

We all remember that blue eyeshadow stage, mainly because of how bad it looked, right? The thing is, blue eye makeup can actually work really well if you get it right! The key is finding a shade that works with your skin tone and eye colour, and then absolutely owning it. To pull off a bold blue eye, you gotta werk it. We love the New CID Cosmetics I-Colour Cream Eyeshadow in Cobalt for a buildable base, topped with shades from the Pixi Mesmerising Mineral Palette in Aquamarine Dream. If blue eyeshadow is a little too daring for you, check out what eyeshadow shades will suit blue eyes, and which suit brown eyes too!

Berry Lips

Believe it or not, Berry lips were big in the 90's. We know you already have this one down and know exactly how to create those beautiful berry shaded lips, but our favourites right now have to be Rimmel's The Only One Lipstick in Under My Spell, and theBalm's Meet Matt(e) Hughes in shade Loyal.

Tousled Hair

We'll take any excuse for a messy bed head, and the tousled hair trend is one of our favourites. After roughly blow-drying our hair, we use the new (and unbelievably magical looking) ghd Serene Pearl Platinum Styler to add some loose waves to the mid-lengths of our hair, keeping the roots and ends straighter. Finish off with a spritz of KMS California's Hairplay Playable Texture and tease your hair, the messier the better!

Grunge Vibes

Going grunge is something we've all secretly wanted to do, but we were never sure we were cool enough to pull it off. It's time to get brave and go for it. We're using Pixi's Endless Silk Eye Pen in Black Noir, or if you fancy injecting a little extra colour, go for Deep Plum! Add a little more smokey grunge with the Make Up By HD Brows Palette in Vamp. The purple and plum tones are perfect for adding a little colour whilst still keeping it grungey!

Brown Lips

Kylie Jenner showed us the way of the brown lip again, but it was huge back in the 90's too! Whether you overline, go for a paler nude shade or rock a darker brown, it's safe to say the brown lip trend is the one that will suit everyone. Rimmel's Kate Nudes Collection contains different shades of nude perfect for different skin tones, and we're also loving L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche L'extraordinaire Lipstick in shade Rose Melody for a more pinky toned nude!

Which of these 90’s trends are you still rockin’?
